This is a presentation by Jose Batista Afonso, about his work in Brazil as a land rights lawyer and human rights defender. He is in the UK following a visit to Brussels.

He has worked on human rights abuses and killings linked to land rights conflicts in Brazil, this being one of the most dangerous places in the world for land and environmental defenders.

Batista will touch upon his work with the Pastoral Land Commission to achieve social and environmental justice for poor landless communities. It should be a very informative evening.

The presentation will be preceded by Mass at 7.00pm in Our Lady’s Church, celebrating Creation and linking in with CAFOD’s Our Common Home campaign.
